With the extra tree limbs and branches we have, we’ve taken to building simple Hugelkultur’s to create better garden beds. I will mainly defer you to other better sources if you’re interested in reading about the background on a Hugelkultur. But in short, they provide better water retention, and soil building for long term garden beds, that we’ve used to plant things like garlic and squash. If you’re interested in reading more:

Here is a short video on how we’ve made a handful of them in our backyard. We could have certainly added more sticks, branches, brambles, and compost but we just used what we had available.
