It is the first week of spring, late March here in the garden. In the fall we prepped the garden beds by keeping them covered in straw, planted over 100 garlic bulbs in late fall, and have spent time in February and early March pruning all of our perennials.

Now comes the preparation for the garden beds, cover cropping, and getting in early season seeds such as spinach, lettuce, and peas. We’ve started documenting in videos our process of early season bed preparation and planting. First part of the video shows how we are supplementing with wood chips to maintain the garden pathways while providing additional soil amendment.

In the second video you’ll see the completion of the garden beds and planting of the early seeds into the first part of the row. Other areas of the garden have been planted in cover crops, and some are covered in straw waiting for seedling transplants in 4-6 weeks.
